 On Saturday, May 3rd, the 6th Council District drop-off trash site will be operated by the Public Works Department and will be open from 8 a.m. to noon for all KCMO residents. It is located at First Baptist Church of Kansas City (corner of Red Bridge & Wornall Rd). The site will accept leaves and brush, tires trash, items, and also offer on-site shredding.

Safety tips for fall and winter weather Have an emergency kit Stay severe-weather and storm ready by making an emergency kit for your home, workplace and vehicles.  Prevent frozen pipes Set each faucet in your house to slowly drip water to keep pipes from freezing. Operate generators outside Don't operate a generator inside the home, including in the basement or garage. Watch space heater placement If you are using a space heater, place it on a level, hard surface. Keep anything flammable at least three feet away. Check AC/furnace unit Make sure your HVAC has a clean filter and is free from debris.   Avoid heating with a stove Never use a stove or oven to heat your home. Doing so can increase the risk of burns and other health issues. Bring pets indoors If they can’t come inside, make sure they have shelter and access to clean water.   Residential solid waste must be stored during the week in closed containers. It is suggested that disposable plastic bags be inserted into metal or plastic refuse containers or placed in holders specifically designed for holding bags. When bags are full, they should be removed from the container, and tied with wire or string tie, prior to being set out. Bags should be placed in an enclosed area until collection day. Solid waste cannot be stored in front or side yards or adjoining side streets. Other Things to Remember and Consider: Most residents use 30-gallon trash bags Trash left in trash cans or other non-disposable containers will not be collected. Up to two bags with pre-paid trash tags will be collected each week outside of the cart. Buy  additional trash tags  at Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper retail locations. Bags and boxes must weigh less than 40 pounds (so the workers can pick it up) and be shorter than four feet long (so it can fit in the truck). Tr...

1/7/25: Due to extreme temperatures and the need for drivers to focus on treating roads, trash and recycling services will be canceled on Tuesday, January 7, Wednesday, January 8, and Thursday, January 9. Bulky item pickup is also canceled for the rest of the week. Residents with appointments should use the  myKCMO app  to reschedule. Collections between Monday, January 13 and Thursday, January 16 will be allowed to have two extra bags . Residents will not need to use bag tags for extra bags.  There will be extra bags collected Friday, January 10 for those who did not have their trash picked up Friday, January 3.
